Brexit & The Green Economy: What Now?

Our 2017 Conference addressed the effects of Brexit and the Green Economy in the UK. Topics such as renewable energy, air quality and the future of agriculture law and policy were discussed by experts in the field.

Conference Summary

After the welcome reception, the first morning session centred on the future of renewable energy in the UK with talks from Dr. Maria Carvalho, policy analyst at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (LSE), Nina Skorupska, CEO of the Renewable Energy Association, Sam Friggens, Energy Economist at Mott MacDonald and Raphael Heffron, Jean Monnet Professor in Energy & Natural Resources Law & Policy at Queen Mary, University of London.

The second panel of the morning sessions was centred on air quality with talks from Richard Macrory CBE, Environmental Law Professor at University College London and Barrister at Brick Court Chambers, Sam Lowe, from Friends of the Earth and Samantha Heath, CEO of the London Sustainability Exchange.

After lunch, Nick Molho, Executive Director of Aldersgate Group and Larry Loham, Director at The Corner House, addressed the keynotes.

A short coffee break was followed by the final talks focussing on the UK Environment after Brexit, particularly, the future of agricultural law and policy. Thomas Lancaster, senior agriculture policy officer at RSBP, Dr. Viviane Gravey, lecturer in European Politics at Queen’s University Belfast, Michael Cardwell, Professor of Agricultural Law at the University of Leeds and Wyn Grant, Visiting Professor at Warwick University (Politics and International Studies), discussed in depth the topic.

To end the day there was an opportunity for further discussion at a drinks reception for speakers and attendees.
