2009 PIEL Conference
Early March 2008 (provisional)
Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Russell Square London
Following on from the success of Public Interest Environmental Law conferences in 2007 and 2008, a new student organising committee will be making arrangements for the third annual conference in March 2009. This is not to be missed.
PIEL aims to bring together students, lawyers, representatives from NGOs, policy-makers, scientists, environmentalists and other members of the public to discuss and debate the public interest in environmental law. The conference aims to support access to environmental justice and provide a accessible network for this. In 2008 the conference looked at energy issues, focussing on local and international cases, speakers included Philippe Sands QC and Peter Roderick, Director of the Climate Justice Programme. The conference draws inspiration from the long established PIELC in the United States (see http://www.pielc.org/pages/home.html) and 2008's UK event benefitted from a live video-link to the event in Oregon.
Times and further details will confirmed in due course. In the meantime please feel free to contact us with suggestions or anything you would like to see in the 2009's conference.
